Over the hills and....
Exceptional route on backroads to G for Guildford - shady undulations- Google man let us down and we ended on a gravel road- bit slippy with the load and thin tyres but no mishaps. A fast descent into Guildford-no power today due to maintenance, so we drank our own water, had a look around the very quaint village, sent Ben's postcard and continued through Castlemaine to H for Hacourt. Slow leak 1 km out but made the town to fix it. I was surprised that this place was so small, as it has a high marketing profile for apple juice and cider. The cheerful lady in the shop cut our roll in half to share and buttered our buns. Just as well we stoked up on food...because it was then over the hills. Just as well they were short & sharp as I am having trouble getting my smallest front cog - turning into a middle cog ride of Vic! Undulating to Maldon, a bit like Cornwall- even had the brick chimney at the entrance to town. Van park was at the top of a hill. and typical Council variety. We walked into town to watch the community events in the main street. Although it was Holy Thursday there were no churches being serviced - in fact most have become community centres or the like. The 135th annual scone baking competition was the highlight of the night - we didn't await the final result but took our leave as the U8 pie eating competition began.
