Is the world flat?
We delayed our start by a day. I was too tired and it was good to have time with our Shepparton hosts Heather & Myles, and do some 36kms on the city's shared paths around their most attractive three lakes.
Today was Day 1.
A is for Ardmona. Although still the centre of a fruit growing area, factory operations are at low operating levels -although a large bulk store still operates in Shep.
B is for Byrneside, Still absolutely flat but moved from fruit to horses, pastures and dairy. Although there is PO, this is for sale - the only shop.
C is for Corup. Thinking we may soon fall off the flat edge, we saw a hill! Very small community with grapes and wine - as well as being one of the largest factory-produced tomatoes in Victoria. Up the only two hills for the day and a flat run into Rochester - home of Oppie, of cycling fame. Between B&C we went through Stanhope and ran into a cousin of Ian Downing ( ex Bike Culture O'Connor). He has a wonderful bicycle museum in his back yard -in which we feature. Will do an article for the PP mag on this.
Overnighting in Rochester Caravan Pk - town still recovering from Jan 2011 floods.Bikes good, legs good, wind not noticeable.
